Finnerty makes Ravens debut against Seahawks

DUBLIN, Ohio (December 23, 2007) -- Cullen Finnerty, the subject of The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media's television documentary Cullen's Quest, made his Baltimore Ravens debut on Sunday in the team's season finale against the Seattle Seahawks.

Finnerty dressed for the Ravens for the first time this season. He originally joined the Ravens after the club signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent in May.

Finnerty became the winningest quarterback in college football history after capping off a stellar career at Grand Valley State University, leading his team to the NCAA Division II national championship three times during his four-year career.

Cullen’s Quest offers an insightful and behind-the-scenes look at Finnerty’s painstaking attempt to become an NFL quarterback, a period that spans from the completion of his collegiate career through rookie mini-camp with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. During that journey Finnerty endures a series of tumultuous highs and lows, from being left out of the NFL’s premier scouting event to being mentored by former NFL quarterback Steve DeBerg. Finnerty and his family must also cope with the anxious tensions of Draft Day before ultimately seeing his dreams fulfilled after signing with the NFL’s Ravens and working out in an NFL uniform for the first time.

Cullen’s Quest also tells the history of Grand Valley State University football through the eyes of longtime radio play-by-play announcer Dick Nelson, a broadcaster who has been in the radio booth from the winless years of the program’s first seasons to its current position perched atop the NCAA Division II football landscape.

Cullen’s Quest is a production of Going Pro LLC, a joint venture between The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media and i.d.e.a.s. Entertainment. The documentary was created by Stephen Evans and Dave Whinham, a GVSU alum and former Lakers assistant coach. Evans, Whinham, and i.d.e.a.s. Entertainment’s Greg Galloway served as executive producers for the program.

Cullen's Quest premiers on Comcast May 31

DUBLIN, Ohio (May 30, 2007) -- Cullen’s Quest, a one-hour documentary featuring the compelling journey to the National Football League by Cullen Finnerty, the winningest quarterback in college football history, premiers at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, throughout the state of Michigan on Comcast Local.

A Brighton, MI, native, Finnerty recently capped off an unprecedented career as the quarterback of Grand Valley State University by leading his team to the NCAA Division II national championship, the team’s second consecutive championship and the third won by Finnerty in his four years at Grand Valley.

Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contracts The Team for consulting services

DUBLIN, Ohio (May 1, 2007) - The Team: Sports, Entertainment, and Media has been retained by the Western Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to conduct workshops with its member institutions during the conference’s summer meetings scheduled for July 31 – August 1, 2007.

Specifically, The Team will conduct workshops on marketing, sponsorship sales, identification and recruitment of minority candidates for coaching positions, and gender equity planning.

The workshops will be conducted by Frank Pergolizzi, Director of The Team’s Collegiate Services Division, and Dave Whinham, President and CEO of The Team.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for The Team to share our many years of experiences in these specific areas with the members of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference,” said Pergolizzi. “We have previously served some of the schools in the WIAC and look forward to working directly with each institution to make their athletic departments as strong as they can possibly be.”

The Team previously provided consulting services to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Team assisted Whitewater with its football coaching search, specifically in the areas of identification and recommendation of minority candidates. With Oshkosh, The Team worked with Athletic Director Al Ackerman on assessment and development of an action plan aimed at improving the athletic department’s corporate sponsorship and advertising program.

The WIAC is an NCAA Division III conference that boasts nine members. In the most-recently completed academic year (2005-06), the WIAC claimed six NCAA Division III national championships. The six WIAC crowns were captured in women's volleyball (UW-Whitewater), men's cross country (UW-La Crosse), men's indoor track and field (UW-La Crosse), women's indoor track and field (UW-Oshkosh), men's outdoor track and field (UW-La Crosse), and women's outdoor track and field (UW-Oshkosh).

UW-La Crosse also won a national championship in women's gymnastics, which is awarded by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA).

The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media's Collegiate Services Division, launched in July 2006, offers an array of products and services to college athletics administrators, including certification consultation, strategic planning, program review, feasibility studies, gender equity and compliance consulting, and financial services.

Based in Dublin, Ohio, The Team began operations in January 2002 and has successfully managed transactions for an array of entities throughout the sports and entertainment industries, including teams at all levels, venues, buyers, sellers, licensed products, television and media projects, feature films, and other related businesses.

Along with brokering professional sports and entertainment opportunities, The Team also offers comprehensive consulting services to sports and entertainment organizations throughout North America.

The Team to produce television documentary featuring college football's all-time winningest quarterback

DUBLIN, Ohio (April 23, 2007) - The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media will tell the compelling story of Cullen Finnerty and his journey to the NFL during a one-hour television documentary set to air regionally throughout the summer on Comcast.

Cullen's Quest will be created and produced by The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media in association with i.d.e.a.s. Entertainment. The Team's Stephen Evans and Dave Whinham will serve as Executive Producers of the show.

The winningest quarterback in college football history, Finnerty will attempt to defy the odds and join the extremely exclusive list of NCAA Division II quarterbacks selected in the NFL Draft.

Finnerty, who compiled a 51-4 overall record in four years as a starter at NCAA Division II’s Grand Valley State University, owns more victories than any other quarterback in the history of college football. He led the Lakers to three national championships and played in four championship games during his four-year career. With Finnerty at the helm, Grand Valley won back-to-back national championships in 2005 and 2006, finishing each of those seasons undefeated.

The premier airing of Cullen’s Quest will be at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007. The documentary will continue to air throughout the summer on Comcast Local.

“This is a great story of a true champion who has accomplished so many outstanding feats in relative obscurity,” said Dave Whinham, who also serves as President and CEO of The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media. “But the NFL is full of small-school success stories, and with the buzz from NFL scouts that has begun to surround the Finnerty Camp, this could certainly become one of the most compelling stories in this year’s NFL Draft.”

Finnerty received little attention from NFL scouts until recent weeks. More than half of the NFL teams sent representatives to last month’s Pro Day workout at Grand Valley and every NFL team had representatives watching the Brighton, MI, native when he worked out at Central Michigan University’s Pro Day in mid-March.

Cullen’s Quest is a positive story about a quality individual working hard and giving his all to accomplish his dream of playing in the NFL,” said Michael Fitzsimmons, programming director for Comcast Local. “It's inspirational television and we are proud to be able to present it to our Comcast Local audience.”

Not since J.T. O’Sullivan was selected in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft has there been a Division II quarterback taken during the Draft’s seven rounds. A relative unknown by many, Finnerty enlisted the services of long-time NFL quarterback and quarterback coach Steve DeBerg to assist him in advancing his mission of defying the odds and hearing his name called on Draft weekend.

Under DeBerg’s tutelage, Finnerty blossomed, drawing favorable comparisons to former DeBerg pupils Tony Romo (starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys), Rex Grossman (starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears), and Byron Leftwich (starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars).

Cullen’s Quest is a production of Going Pro LLC, a joint venture between The Team: Sports, Entertainment, & Media and i.d.e.a.s. Entertainment. In addition to Evans and Whinham of The Team, i.d.e.a.s. Entertainment’s Greg Galloway will also serve as an Executive Producer of the program.
